A MARY’S FAIRYLAND FAIRY TALE

The Map at Paw Height

Part 2 of 30. Restore a forgotten little lantern trail and welcome the first gathering, making room for feet, wings and slow journeys.

The Map at Paw Height

Lulu brings a fresh strip of bark for a map. She draws the great tree, the fern and a long straight line. Pip walks beside the line, then stops at a stone shaped like a boot. “Your line has forgotten this,” he says.

The stone makes the path turn. A curl of root makes it turn again. Lulu looks from above and sees one neat route. Pip sees a place to squeeze through, a patch to step over and a very interesting hollow that is not part of the route at all.

Two ways forward

They swap jobs. Lulu walks slowly on the ground while Pip describes each turn. She draws fewer things, but makes them larger. The boot-shaped stone gets a proper place. A small gap in the root becomes a gap in the drawing. Now the map begins to resemble the walk. There is room for a low marker or a little flag that can be seen from above.

Mark the turn low down

Pip stands beside the enormous boot stone and raises one small paw. “A boot for a giant with only one foot.” Lulu gives the boot a toe on the map, just for him. They place a ridged bark chip beside the boot stone. Pip recognises it with one careful step. Lulu draws its shape on the map, so walkers have a low landmark as well as the stone.

A good place to stop

Lulu rolls up their map beside the stone. Pip can recognise the turn now. A good drawing has learned something from two small paws.

A few little answers

What is Mary’s Fairyland Stories?

Daily Fairyland offers a five-minute episode each day, with a different story world and cast each month. Read or listen in English and German, catch up on released days, or use the separate personal story maker.

Can my child practise reading German?

Every book has English and German text. Switch languages, use English help, listen to German narration and replay individual words. Choose “Learning / new language” for simpler personal stories.

How long are the stories?

Daily-world episodes have an estimated five-minute reading length. In the separate personal story maker, choose 5, 10, 15 or 20 minutes. Read and listen at your own pace.

Are the stories free?

Public books are free to read. Personal story creation and new natural narration are currently a limited free beta, subject to a shared monthly allowance. Prepared books remain readable when that allowance rests.

Are personal stories private?

Personal books are private by default. A parent can create an unlisted link, which expires after 90 days and can be switched off earlier. Never include sensitive details in a story.

Does this work on a phone or a computer?

Yes. Mary’s Fairyland Stories is designed for a web browser, with a spacious computer layout and touch-friendly reading on phones and tablets.

How are the stories made?

AI creates the text, illustrations and natural narration. Automated checks review language, age suitability and pictures. AI can make mistakes, so reading together is encouraged.
