Bruno’s Very Full Basket
Bruno brings his best collection to the room. There are bark strips, curled leaves, short twigs, a flat stone and something he calls a possibly useful bend. Nori reaches for the bend at once. Fina looks at the doorway. The basket has made entering the room quite difficult.
Bruno has saved each piece for a reason. He remembers where he found the smooth bark and who once needed a short twig. Putting something aside feels like saying that the saving was foolish. Fina asks him to tell the story of one piece, rather than defend the whole collection at once.
Two ways forward
They choose the smooth bark. It can be a little tray, a repair patch or a shelf divider. It deserves a clear place. The possibly useful bend has no task yet. Nori tries balancing it on three things and nearly knocks the tray over. Bruno laughs, then moves the bend away himself. Fina makes room for the idea before finding room for more things. Which rule shall they try first?
Give possibilities one small box
A curly piece springs out of the basket and rests against Bruno’s foot. He picks it up, then remembers the pile already waiting. Nori is delighted by its shape. Delight, Bruno discovers, does not always require keeping a thing. They choose a box small enough to inspect without emptying the room. Bruno adds the bend with a little drawing of its shape. When the box is full, they will look through it before collecting more. The doorway clears.
A good place to stop
Bruno can lift the basket comfortably again. Fina checks the remaining pieces with him. A good idea has room to grow because every interesting shape no longer needs to come home.
