The Shelf That Whistled
Something whistles when Nori opens the window. He closes it and the sound stops. He opens it again and Bruno answers the whistle from the table, badly enough to make Fina laugh. For a moment they all enjoy the room having a voice. Then they wonder what is making it.
A thin curled strip has slipped between a shelf edge and the window frame. Air passing it makes the small sound. Mira shows the moving end without pulling the whole shelf apart. Nori had been ready to repair the window, which would have been a very large answer to a very small discovery.
Two ways forward
They remove the loose strip from the frame and put it safely on the table. The window is quiet again. Bruno finds two little supports that let them examine the curl without letting it blow away. Fina notices how its shape changes the sound when held in different positions. Fina watches the curve moving slightly in its place as the air passes. Which role should this unexpected whistle have?
Save the curl as a labelled discovery
The little whistle starts exactly when everyone falls quiet. Ivo looks behind the shelf for a tiny musician. Mira smiles and points to the moving air. The room has made a surprise without making a new resident. Fina draws the curl and the small gap where it had whistled. Nori gives the example a safe shelf place, away from the working window. Someone else can discover how a shape once made the room seem to sing.
A good place to stop
The whistle has a place in their understanding of the room. Ivo stops searching for the invisible musician. Nori listens once more, pleased that an ordinary curve can still surprise him.
