Fina Is Not an Umbrella
A few drops begin to fall while the friends move light materials under the root shelter. Bruno raises a loose leaf over his basket. Nori looks at Fina’s broad leaf body and starts to suggest something, then sees her expression. “I am coming into the shelter too,” she says.
Nori closes his mouth and makes room. Fina can be flexible and helpful without becoming every object that resembles her. Mira puts her own thin bark body safely under cover as well. She is not a spare roof panel. Bruno carries only the small load he can manage without losing the clear path.
Two ways forward
Once everything is dry, they look at what the rain has shown them. The shelter has room for materials but not enough clear standing space for the people moving them. Nori had planned the storage before imagining the helpers. Fina marks a place where each can wait without being pressed against a wet edge. Which change should their first unexpected shower help them choose?
Store less beneath the shared shelter
A drop slides along the doorway and lands beside the waiting pieces. Fina stands safely to one side. Nori looks at her thin leaf body and then at the available bark. This time he asks the material to do the material’s job. They move unneeded supplies to the dry indoor store and leave a generous clear place under the root. Fina tests waiting there with Bruno beside her. The shelter now has room for helpers, not only the things they carry.
A good place to stop
The material and the helpers both have a dry place. Fina joins the others without becoming their roof. Nori can enjoy the sound of rain now that his plan includes everybody.
