Lulu and the Singing Brook

Lulu and Pip discover that the Willow Brook has lost its musical sound. They must find out why the water is so quiet.

A Quiet Morning

The sun rises over Moonflower Wood. Everything is bright and golden. Lulu and Pip walk to the Willow Brook. Lulu has pink hair in a short braid. She wears a moss-green dress. Pip is a small grey mouse. He wears a sky-blue scarf. Usually, the water makes a happy, singing sound. The brook loves to sing! But today is different. The brook is very silent. Lulu looks at the water. "Where is the music?" she asks. The forest is very quiet.

The Silent Water

Lulu flies low over the blue water. Her dragonfly wings go flutter, flutter. Pip stands on a small stone. He listens with his big, round ears. He is very quiet. "Where is the music?" asks Pip. He looks at the brook. The water moves slowly over the grey stones. It flows and flows. But there is no song. There is no happy sound. The brook is very, very silent today. This is a big mystery for the little friends.

The Big Obstacle

Lulu and Pip walk along the water. They follow the brook to the Old Oak. Suddenly, they stop. Oh no! A big pile of leaves is in the way. The leaves are heavy and very wet. They stick together like a thick, brown blanket. The leaves block the narrow path of the water. The water cannot flow. Everything is very still. "Look at that!" says Pip. He points with his little nose. The leaves are a big problem for the brook.

A New Idea

Lulu tries to help. She flies to the leaves. She pushes them with her small, clear wings. But the leaves are too heavy. They are also very wet. Lulu is tired. "Oh no, it is too much!" says Lulu. Pip looks around. He sees a long, brown stick on the ground. It is very strong. Pip has a clever idea. "Look, Lulu! We can use this stick like a rake!" says Pip. He smiles at his friend. They can solve this problem together.

Working Together

Pip takes the strong stick. He pulls the stick through the wet leaves. It is hard work! Lulu wants to help her friend. She uses her magic star-dew. The magic sparkles like tiny lights. Now the leaves are very slippery. Pip pulls and Lulu helps with her magic. Together they move the heavy leaf-blanket away. The leaves slide to the side. Suddenly, the path is clear. The water can flow freely again! They did it! Teamwork is very helpful.

The Happy Song

Suddenly, the water moves! The brook starts to sing again. Splash, splash! The water jumps happily over the grey stones. The music is back. It is a very happy song. Lulu and Pip are very happy too. They sit together on the green grass by the bank. Lulu wiggles her pink hair. Pip wiggles his long grey tail. The forest is full of music once more. Everything is beautiful and bright. The little friends listen to the song together.

A few little answers

What is Mary’s Fairyland Stories?

Mary’s Fairyland Stories offers illustrated fairy stories in English and German for ages 4–12. Read together, listen to a narrator, or create a personal story.

Can my child practise reading German?

Every book has English and German text. Switch languages, use English help, listen to German narration and replay individual words. Choose “Learning / new language” for simpler personal stories.

How long are the stories?

Choose estimated reading times of 5, 10, 15 or 20 minutes. Age and reading confidence change the length and vocabulary. Read at your own pace.

Are the stories free?

Public books are free to read. Personal story creation and new natural narration are currently a limited free beta, subject to a shared monthly allowance. Prepared books remain readable when that allowance rests.

Are personal stories private?

Personal books are private by default. A parent can create an unlisted link, which expires after 90 days and can be switched off earlier. Never include sensitive details in a story.

Does this work on a phone or a computer?

Yes. Mary’s Fairyland Stories is designed for a web browser, with a spacious computer layout and touch-friendly reading on phones and tablets.

How are the stories made?

AI creates the text, illustrations and natural narration. Automated checks review language, age suitability and pictures. AI can make mistakes, so reading together is encouraged.

What do you measure?

Optional parent-approved analytics count reading actions and returning browsers for 28 days. We do not record screens, typed names, prompts, passwords, story text or share links. You can turn measurement off in Privacy choices.

Share a little magic

Anyone with this unlisted link can read the story. It expires after 90 days. You can turn it off at any time.

FOR GROWN-UPS

Small steps. Wonderful stories.

Choose ages 4–6, 7–9 or 10–12 and a reading confidence level. Younger stories use shorter sentences and gentler problems. New-language mode uses simpler German. Reading times are estimates, not a race.

Personal stories are private until you create a share link. Family accounts save books, favourites and reading progress across devices. Guest progress stays in this browser. There are no child accounts, advertisements or microphone recordings. A parent email is used only for account verification and password resets. The service owner can review accounts and stories for support and quality.

Story text and optional first names are processed by our AI providers to create the book. Use made-up names and avoid sensitive details. One friendly narrator is prepared once per page and language, then reused for readers and shared books.

Stories pass automatic language, age-suitability and picture checks. AI can still make mistakes. Reading together is encouraged.

New stories and new recordings share a small monthly allowance. Prepared recordings are reused, so playing them again does not create a new recording. Reading remains available when new generation pauses.
